This course is designed for people who are new to the PI system. In this course, we'll introduce you to all the different PI system tools and components that come with the PI Data Infrastructure package, from collecting your data, storing and enhancing your data, to delivering context rich visualisation to end-users, and securely sharing reliable, real-time industrial data.
On the connectivity side, we’ll cover our PI Interfaces, PI Connectors and PI Adaptors to make sure the PI system can communicate with whatever and however many data source you may have.
On the server side, the PI Server comprises of the core Data Archive upon which you will learn how to build templates with Asset Framework, and build real-time analytics based on your templates with Asset Analytics.
On the configuration side, Asset Framework provides a hierarchical structure and context to view assets in your infrastructure, you’ll learn to build templates for common assets and within each asset capture all the different real-time data and metadata associated with it.
On the client side, you’ll learn how to build out PI Vision displays and share them with whoever needs to see them. PI Vision is a web browser-based application that lets you retrieve, monitor and analyse process information. We’ll also cover PI Datalink, where you can access your PI System data in Microsoft Excel. You can use Excel’s advanced features to analyse retrieved data and get more out of your PI system data.
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Define the components of a PI System
- Understand common PI architectures, terminology, and syntax
- License a PI system
- Define what a PI tag or PI point is
- Understand PI time expressions
- Explain the differences between fixed and reference times
- Use time offsets
- Understand the effect of DST on the retrieval of PI point data.
- Learn how to connect the PI System to Data Sources
- Learn the skills needed to successfully model your processes and equipment using the Asset Framework (AF) Server
- Define the terms of Asset Framework (AF) and its components: elements and attributes.
- Define AF attribute types: static (none), PI Point, point array, formula, string builder, table lookup and Analysis
- Learn about Asset Analytics and create calculations
- Learn the basic features and functions to start building and interacting with PI Vision displays
- Configure PI DataLink to retrieve data into Excel
Individuals who need to collect, store, organise, and deliver high-fidelity, contextualised operations data from wherever it originates, to wherever it needs to go - ready for analysis.
This course is beneficial for many roles including, Operators, Engineers, Data Scientists, Plant Managers, Asset Managers, Maintenance Managers, and other individuals whose jobs include using data management platforms for analysis and reporting within production environments.
Anyone can access the data from easy, self-service tools: managers, scientists, engineers, analysts, even accountants commonly go to the PI system to visualise and analyse up-to-date process data, historical data, and forecasted data.
Knowledge of the following tools, features, and technologies is required:
- Industrial automation software concepts
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel
